Okay, after reading it again...maybe it wasn't that witty or humorous...
Anyway, what is interesting are the reasons why people choose to stay or leave their childhood homes. On one hand, we can preserve the memories of our loved ones by staying behind. In doing so we can immerse ourselves in the comfort of happier times. Back when worries seemed to rarely appear and nostalgia was a reality. For instance, Ms. Wolkenberg initially wanted to throw away her father's possessions.

For instance, Ms. Wolkenberg initially wanted to throw away her father's possessions.
Yet she found herself unable to let go of his paintings and do away with his library, noting that “If change were easy, everyone would do it.”

But in a sense, we have to move on as that is the nature of life which is something Lucille understood. Each second that passes by moves onto the next. Even Ms. Wolkenberg eventually decided to let go of her father's possessions.
She said that " I know that when I leave, I will weep, but every day you have to kick the ball forward." While its important to remember where we came from, its equally important to move on and move forward.

Perhaps another reason is that people wish to leave behind the dark memories that haunt their childhood homes.
Food for thought.
